Count down for the Aussie champs

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jake @ 12:55 pm

With only two and a half weeks to go until the Australian Champs I have been trying to get out on the bike as much as possible. I will be flying down to Blenheim on the 10th of October meeting up with Brendon who will be minding for me for the weekend. We will drive down to Christchurch on the 11th and fly out to Adelaide where the two days of the Australian champs will be held.

We arive on the Thursday afternoon and get to have a practise on the Friday. I will be riding a 280 Gas Gas which will be interesting as I’m not used to that much power. I am aiming to finish at least in the top ten but as always i will be setting my goals as high as i can.

After the Aussie champs are over i have a couple of days rest then i will be heading up to Hawkes Bay for the New Zealand championships where i will be back on board the little screaming 125 ready for another challange.

Good win in Alex

Filed under: Competitions — Jake @ 6:33 pm

On Saturday and Sunday I rode in Alexandra for the final rounds of the South Island champs. Saturday morning started out freezing cold but after a warm up ride it was ok but the wind was causing a few problems as some of the rocks down there are massive and its not very nice being on top of them when its like that.

I started the first lap off really well only dropping one point on a trickey down hill turn because of the wind and a bit of loose stone. After only droping one point on my first lap my next challange was to get a clean lap so i was putting 100% in to every section making sure of everything. I didn’t lose any points on my second lap so the pressure was on to try and do the same for the next two laps and i managed to do it.

After only losing one point on Saturday I was feeling confident of another good ride. The sections were a bit harder with a few big steps but the little 125 still wasn’t struggling and i only ended up dropping two points on the first lap and the same on the second. I was determined to get a clean lap again and on my third lap I got it without a struggle. My last lap started off really well but i was getting tired and I lost two silly marks towards the end.

I really enjoyed this weekend and to win and only lose seven for the whole weekend was awesome. I haven’t had scores that low since i was riding in the junior grade.

A big thanks to Karl Clark my minder for the weekend he did an awesome job as always and I’m looking forward to the NZ champs in October where i will have Karl along side me again and hopefully we will have the same result then as I did this weekend.

I would also like to thank Nelson Marlborough Trials Center for the bike and getting it running really well for me and Mum and Dad for coming down to watch.

The Flight home

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jake @ 10:58 am

Last Thursday after 29 hours of flying time and 12 hours worth of stop overs I arrived home safe and sound. I didn’t get any sleep at all really so I was pretty tired when I got home but it was great to catch up and see all my family again. I would like to thank all the people that made it possible for me to compete in Europe especially my Mum And Dad it would never of happend without all your incredible support.I really enjoyed my time over there and I got a lot out of it being able to ride amongst all the best riders in the world was just awesome.

At the moment I am sitting on the ferry heading down to Picton for a Fathers day show I will be riding in Blenheim tomorrow. After that Mum and Dad are flying down and we are heading over to Nelson for the night to catch up with the Oliver family and then on Monday we are heading down to Alexandra for the South Island champs next weekend. We are going down early so I can get some good training in as Alexandra is my favorite place in the world to ride because there is just so much grip and the rocks are huge.
