1st World Championship for 2008

Filed under: Competitions — Jake @ 9:36 am

Hi Guys

Well I wanted more than anything to be able to give you good news tonight but unfortunately it hasn’t been a very good start to the season.

The trial was quite tough with some sections being a good ride to get through for a three. Most of them were just full of thick Mud that as soon as you entered the section the tyers would just be full of it. I went into the day feeling good on the bike. My first lap wasn’t too far off the top five which was really good because this gave me confidence going into the next lap knowing that the sections would be dried out and another good lap would be on the cards.

Half way through the second lap things just started to go very wrong. Getting a five for snapping the tape setting off for a bank that every inch of run up you could get, the better it was. Then some more unnecessary fives on sections that should of been a lot easier for me as they were dried out more.

I knew after the last section that the result wasn’t going to be very flash but to find out that it was worse than last years attempt, I think my heart missed a few beats to see that I was in 13th place.

Now I am focusing on next weekends trial in Ireland where I will be more determined than ever to have a good result.

Catch ya later

Ready for first WTC

Hi Guys

Just a quick note to let you all know how this week went. All the bikes left on Tuesday for Luxembourg for the first round of the World Championship. This gave me a good chance to just focus on the fitness side of things so this has been pretty much my week with along helping clean up the workshop for next week.

Tomorrow we have to be up at 4:30am to catch a 6am flight so not looking forward to the early start so much but will be keen to finally start the 2008 World Championship. Debbie will update with results on Sunday night after the trial so keep your eyes peeled, then on Monday I will do a full report.

Cheers

Second Italian Round

Filed under: Competitions — Jake @ 12:32 am

This was the second Italian Championship held in San Marino around five hours drive from where we live in Bergamo. Saturday in practice I was feeling pretty good on the bike and all the mechanics came out with their laptops to change the mapping to suit the terrain that we were going to be riding on for Sunday. After a really good two hour walk of the sections on Saturday afternoon felt confident of a good result. All the sections were held in a slippery river with quite a few big steps apart from one man made section. On Sunday morning I was about the seventh rider in the senior grade to start. I started off the day with a clean on the first section and most other riders were fiving it or getting threes which was a good confidence boost for the rest of the day. Overall I ended up nineth and although the result didnt show it but the points between riders was very close between fourth and nineth and there was one section that I couldnt get on the 125cc as I was disadvantaged against the bigger bikes but otherwise I would have made it to the top three.

Good night out in Milan

Another week gone training hard. Saturday night we were lucky enough to go to the last World Round on the Indoor Championship to see Toni Bou and all the other riders in action. It was a really good night and Toni came away with the win as expected as he is in another league of his own compared to the other riders. Its so amazing to see how relaxed and confident Toni is on his back wheel. The next morning we all went out practicing for the day and I was enthused and exciting to get back on the bike from watching the indoor from the previous night. It was a really good day and felt good on the bike so looking forward to a good result this coming weekend.

Me and Karl training

Shaky Start….

Filed under: Competitions — Jake @ 11:49 pm

This weekend was the first round of the Italian Championship. It was 10 hours drive from where we live in Bergamo. Before we left we were told that we would probably see some Mafia on the highways and sure enough we did, it was quite scary and they look and act very much like what you see on the programme ‘The Sopranos’ in their suits and smoking cigars and when they drive past you they steer through their windows into the van checking everyone out.

Saturday was sign in and practice time which I felt really good on the bike. Sunday morning I was number 36 rider away and was riding in the senior grade which is second to the top and a bit harder than what I would be riding in the World Rounds but alot harder than our top grade at home. I was competing against a lot bigger bikes so I had a disadvantage on the bigger steps which were in most of the sections. It was one of those days where nothing seemed to be going right. The sections were either hit or miss and the majority of the time I missed. There was a 125cc class but we decided to step up to senior to try me and the bike out on some bigger sections to get some practice in for the World Rounds. I had some mega rides and this weekend was a big learning curve. The first two laps were the ones that hurt me the most but the last lap was round the same points as what the top guys were getting and back home I usually take till the last two laps to come back on the other riders but I’m learning over here that you afford to do this as there are so many riders and it is really close and it is impossible to come back from a bad first and second lap if you are not constant throughout the day.

The team support was great over weekend and thanks to Gerno my mechanic and the rest of the team and also Karl (Guido) for doing a great job as always minding and catching.

Laters for now
