Italian Race in Recoaro Terme

Filed under: Competitions — Jake @ 4:51 am

Hi All

Just a quick up date before I head off to Japan.
Friday we took the four hour trip off to the lastest Italian race.  Arrvied there about 7pm and James Dabbil and I went for a run while the others set up the truck.  Saturday morning we went out to practice and the condidtions were very slippery, they would be the most slippery conditions yet!  Felt really good in practice and went back for some lunch (more pasta….) and then went out and walked the sections around the big loop.  After section eight there was a long down hill track, was good fun as there was Karl, James, Jack and myself all racing down this hill (enduro style) :)

Race day Sunday we had over night rain which made the conditions even more slippery.  Both Karl and I knew that it was going to be one of those days where you really had to fight just to get through a section for a three.  Finished the day in 9th position which I and the team were happy with.  I bet one of the other 125cc riders and was only a few points off the other rider which rides in the World Rounds as well.

All in all it was a good race before we head off to Japan and are looking forward for a good result this weekend.  Wont be back until Tuesday/Wednesday next week so will do a more depth update when I get back but will be in contact with Debbie back in Italy and she will post the results when they come in.

Update

Filed under: Competitions — Jake @ 6:28 am

Hi everyone
Just thought I would let you all know what I have been up to in these last few weeks.
I have just been mainly training on the bike and fitness as my next race is not until the 25th May which is another Italian race, then the following weekend is the 5th world round in Japan.

Really the last few weeks will be the only break until September. After the 25th of May we only really have two or three weekends free until the last world round in Spain in September. So will be full on.

Summer has now arrived here in Italy and are enjoying getting out to practice when the sun is shining. Have been told that it gets alot warmer yet! At the moment the weather here is pretty much like New Zealand weather and we have only just started the summer.

Karl has organised with Josh Coppins for us all to go to the 4th round of the GP Motocross in Italy this weekend, looking forward to watching Josh ride again and continue to climb to the top. Big thanks to Josh for organising the free tickets.

Have attached a couple of photos and are really looking forward to the next two races and carrying on my form from USA to Japan.

Cheers
Jake

Rounds 3&4 in the states

Filed under: Competitions — Jake @ 12:41 am

If you have read the right up below this one that Debbie did for me while i was away from the computer you would already know my result after the first day in America. Anyway i finished 10th on both days which was a good improvement on my last events.

We walked the sections on the Friday after practise and most of them looked really good with a few hard ones. On the first day most of the sections were dry apart from the ones in the stream. Section 15 had a really nasty step in it and no matter what way you looked at it, there wasn’t a nice line up it, on my first lap i went into it really fast and aggresive but near the top there were two rocks you needed to be in between and i clipped my left foot on one really hard, I was in a lot of pain and for a few minutes thought i had lost all my toes but i managed to get out the end pegs for a two. After a little break i started my second lap in a lot of pain ,but was able to finish the lap with a better score than the first. After i had handed my card in i was back in the pits with ice on my foot to keep the swelling down so i could get it back in the boot the next morning.

On Sunday morning once my foot was in the boot it felt pretty good and i could forget all about it. I was felling good after cleaning the first two sections which was a good confidence boost for the day. A lot of the sections stayed the same from Saturday apart from a couple, there was quite a lot of rain the night before so it made the sections harder but my first lap was better than the day before so i improved again. On my second lap there were a few fives that on the lap before i was able to get through the section for a dab or a three so it was a bit of a disapoinment to completely fail those few sections but i still managed to finish in the top ten so at the end of the day i have to be happy with my result.

So far the trip to the U.S has been a big highlight of the season for me, it was really good to spend some time in a english speaking country and found the americans pretty friendly. Now i am really looking forward to heading off to Japan in a few weeks time where i will be trying to improve again on my tenth place.

I would like to give a BIG thanks to all the Guys in USA Montesa team for there surport over the weekend ,

Thanks for all the support everyone has been giving me lately i really apreciate it and it makes beeing so fare away from home just that little bit easier.

Cheers

Jakey
